Meet Alex - Our office "Green Champion".

Unless you have been living under a rock for the last few months you cannot have failed to see the increased concern about the impact of single use plastics on our environment in the press and on social media. This got us talking here at the Brewhouse, and in particular one of our recruitment team Alex who thought that there was a lot more we could be doing to reduce our impact on the environment. This week as a team we are exploring how we can do our bit and how the hospitality industry is also playing their part in reducing plastic waste too. We have nominated Alex as our Green Champion and here he talks about why this issue means so much to him.

“Back in 2014 I decided to go back to being a vegetarian, (and later trying to be vegan if only Cadbury’s chocolate wasn’t so tempting!), after I had watched YouTube videos on diet and animal welfare, which had made me question the need to eat animal products and contribute to one of the world’s biggest polluters.

This led me to looking into other ways we can reduce our negative impact on the environment. I came across inspiring people such as Rob Greenfield, who has made drastic changes to his lifestyle to reduce the waste he creates and energy he consumes. While most of us will not want to live off grid in a tiny home, get rid of their car and reduce water consumption by washing in the sea and harvesting rain water, we can all make small changes to live in a more environmentally conscious way.

Mainstream media has picked up on the heavy environmental costs of animal agriculture and the BBC documentary, Blue Planet 2, has greatly increased people’s awareness of the impact of single use plastics that end up in our rivers and oceans. It is refreshing to see the raised awareness across the media and here at work, this is an invaluable opportunity to reflect on how we can each play our part.

Being ‘green’ is as popular as ever and we are looking to do our bit by reducing FindMyPub.com’s impact on the environment by making changes individually and across the business.”

Across this week we will be looking at what we are doing already at FindMyPub.com and what else we can do – so keep an eye out on our website and across our social media feeds to follow how we are working to make FindMyPub.com go green!
