Marc Wileman, Founder of Leicester-based Sublime Science and former England and Leicestershire cricketer Matthew Hoggard were just two of the inspirational people top-lining at the Institute of Directors (IoD) East Midlands Young Directors Forum Convention.

They and a panel of young regional entrepreneurs shared the highs and lows of running a business at the event held at The Belfry Hotel, Nottingham. Around 86 young business leaders and guests attended.

Steve Walker, Managing Director of Peritus Learning in Leicester and Chairman of the East Midlands Young Directors Forum, said: “This year’s convention, hosted by England cricket sensation and sports personality Matthew Hoggard, aimed to provide an opportunity for young entrepreneurs and directors of the East Midlands to gain industry leaders’ insight on significant business issues and to connect with like-minded people.”

Marc Wileman, founder of Sublime Science, who successfully won £50,000 worth of investment on the BBC’s infamous Dragons’ Den by amazing two of the investors with his wacky and informative science based business, was guest speaker.

This was the third Annual YDF event and was sponsored by AON.

A panel of East Midlands entrepreneurs gave advice and discussed issues affecting their own businesses. These included Helen Amery of the executive coaching and leadership development company Wild Fig Solutions; Helen Lees, founder and MD of Findmypub.com;

Dan Miller, Founder and CEO of the Derby-based Young Professionals UK and the youngest IoD Member in the UK was another speaker along with Paul Swain, who runs the Leicester-based Paul’s Fitness and works with the On Course Foundation.

The IoD in the East Midlands has pioneered work and educational events with young directors and has one of the largest regional student memberships in the IoD.
